Sunday in the Park at Oakland Cemetery

Today we visited Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta for Sunday in the Park. Oakland Cemetery is a garden cemetery that is located less than a mile from downtown Atlanta and is surrounded by the city. It is a showplace of sculpture and architecture, and a botanical preserve with ancient oaks and magnolias. There was live entertainment, great food, storytelling, dancing and tours of the historical people that make the cemetery their final resting place. The cemetery was hit hard by the tornados that came through Atlanta this Spring, but only a few areas are still under reconstruction.

After walking through the cemetery, we ate dinner at Six Feet Under, a great place for seafood across the street from the cemetery. Lee strongly recommends the shrimp and grits!
