Lizard Ridge

A couple of years ago I started a project that looked like a lot of fun - the Lizard Ridge Afghan. It was easy enough but taught me a new technique (short rows), used fun yarn and great colors, and was a bigger project that I could do for myself, instead of the normal scarves and purses. The yarn was a little more expensive that what I would normally use, but I could buy it one skein at a time since each square is a different color, and it would give me an excuse to visit the LYS that's not-so-local. The Knitting Emporium in Kennesaw, about 50 miles from here, is the closest place that carried Noro Kureyon, so several skeins came from there, a few from Lizzie Ann's Wool Co. and Friends of Wool in Holland which I picked up on various trips up there, and the rest from Yarn Market.

After 12 or 13 squares, I got distracted and this project ended up in the closet for about 2 years. I had great intentions of finishing it while on maternity leave with Annika. I seriously thought I would have nothing better to do than knit while my beautiful newborn took long naps each afternoon. Again, back to reality, and I found this project last month in the closet of our spare bedroom. I was inspired! I whipped through the last two squares, meticulously blocked all 16 squares and hand stitched them together. While in Michigan, my mom gave me a crash course on crocheting and I was able to figure out the double stitching around the whole blanket while in the car on the road trip home. I'm really impressed with it, and can't wait to use it all winter - it's 100% wool so it will definitely keep us warm while curled up on the couch!
