We haven't had much to post about recently. We have been very busy doing, well, nothing much. Drawing with sidewalk chalk, blowing bubbles, dancing at Kindermusik and reading the same books over and over pretty much consumes our week nights and all day on the weekends. We've had really great weather - in the 70s - for the last several days so it has been really nice to get outside and get fresh air after being cooped up inside all winter. That's something to be thankful for!
Another thing we are thankful for is that Lee's dad has pulled through his by-pass surgery today. He went in for a heart cath on Monday, and they determined that he needed surgery this week. So, he went in this morning and a few hours later - it's over. We are thankful that at least the first reports are good, and that there are people in this world that have the gift of saving people's lives! That's another thing to be thankful for!
Also today I had more dental work done. I don't think I've written about this before, but I'm in the middle of a big dental restoration project. I determined that since I now have a child, I need to overcome my fear of the dentist and act like a "big girl". Well, it has been more painful and expensive than I expected, but I'm glad that I'm dealing with it and getting it out of the way. I have already had 2 root canals and went in today to get the first permanent crown. I just have to laugh that I now have a gold tooth. Again, thankful for the great dentist and endodontist that dealt with me being scared to death, even though I really felt nothing. Lots of pain killers and ibuprofen later, I'm nearly done! Another thing to be thankful for!
I am personally thankful for an incredible husband that has taken great care of me while I endured several not-so-happy dental procedures, while he is in the process of finishing his Masters degree. Even tonight, he had the neighbors deliver ice-cream to me while he's in Chattanooga with his dad, because my mouth is still swollen and sore. I told him that he is just as sweet 60 miles away as he is when he is here! He will be having a big birthday this Friday - turning 30 - and I am so happy to be married to such a smart, caring, incredible person!
Finally, we are both thankful for our incredible extended family that will be taking care of Annika for us for the next few days. Lee and I are leaving on our first "real" vacation on Saturday morning - to celebrate his birthday and take a much-needed break. We are actually taking a vacation that doesn't involve travelling to Michigan! We are flying to DC to spend a few days touring the sites and hanging out - without a child! What a test this will be...I haven't been away from Annika for more than 24 hours yet. I know she will be in great hands - and all of Lee's family is coming together to take care of her while we are gone!
So, we have a lot to be thankful for, even when our life seems mundane. All it takes is a minute to sit and think about all that we have going on in our life, and how fortunate we are!
