Holiday weekend

We had a very relaxing weekend...I was off on Friday and went to pick blueberries in Hiram. The bushes had been picked over pretty well, and there were a lot of berries that were not ripe yet, but I managed to get about 10 cups - just enough to make a great batch of blueberry jam! Yum! Friday night, we had planned on going to the Rome Braves game, but didn't buy tickets in advance and arrived only to find that the game was sold out! So instead, we had friends over, ordered pizzas and sat by the campfire in the back yard. Great friends, great times, and a great new drink - Oberon margaritas!

On Saturday we relaxed all day - no plans, so we spent time outside while Annika played in the sprinkler and her kiddy pool. Lee and I enjoyed just spending time together outside, flipping through magazines in the 80-degree weather. Quite a break from the triple-digit temps we have been having!

Today, we took a ride to Chattanooga and enjoyed walking around the Chattanooga Zoo. It was cloudy and sprinkling when we arrived, but the rain stopped as soon as we pulled in the parking lot, and the sun came out. It was great weather, and the zoo was not crowded at all! We saw lots of animals - chimpanzees, red pandas, bobcats, birds, peacocks, monkeys...I think Annika's favorite were the animals in the Ranch exhibit, where she was able to pet the small goats and the pot-bellied pig. She loved them! Here's a picture of her petting "Cupcake".

Now we're looking at another busy week. I will be leaving tomorrow afternoon for two days of meetings in Macon, so Lee will be holding down the household by himself until Thursday evening. Luckily, Annika will get to go to daycare two days this week so that he can get some things done during the day. He'll also be trying to fit in some golf, as he will return to school in about three weeks...my, how the summer flies!
