A few weeks ago I started meeting a group of people every Saturday morning at Berry College to start training for the Berry Half Marathon in March. About 30 of us meet at 8am and follow a training program developed by Dr. Dickens (a Berry professor and psychologist that we use frequently at work). Dr. Dickens also runs The Scott Center, a private practice that focuses on exercise psychology. We started at 2 miles, and are working our way up to 15 miles over the course of the next few months. So far we have increased to 5 miles, and we split into groups based on speed. Each group has one person that is designated to keep the pace, and the rest of us just try to keep up! :) So far it has been a lot of fun, even though last week we did 4 miles in pouring down rain. Dr. Dickens reminded us that it could rain on race day, so it's best to keep training no matter what the weather. I can handle the rain. It's the 10 degree temperatures that I'm not looking forward to!
So, if you are looking for something to do on Saturday mornings, come join us at Berry. We really do have fun! And the more people that show, the more motivated I will be to stick with this through the winter!
Also, and few friends and I will be running in the Communities in Schools Run for Success on November 14th. I think I've even convinced Lee to give it a try and join us. So, if you're in the area, stop by and cheer us on - or even better, join us - to support this great program!
